Cheddar is well provided with all the necessary shops & services. 

 

It has two banks, the National Westminster, and Lloyds which both have cash points. We have the Halifax and Cheltenham and Gloucester building societies both or which cash cheques. Cheddar has a Post Office and Library. 

 

The Tourist InformationInformation Office which is in the gorge is open daily from Easter to early November. It is open on Sundays in winter. We have a Dentist, Opticians, Veterinary Surgery and a Health Centre (Tel. 742061). We have Garages which provide 24-hour breakdown service, car hire and car wash etc. There is a frequent bus service to Weston-super-Mare and Wells, and a once daily service to Bristol. The nearby railway stations are Weston-super-Mare and Bristol. 

Shopping in Cheddar

The many shops in Cheddar Gorge offer a multiplicity of gifts and novelties to appeal to all price ranges and tastes: The tourist's needs are also catered for in the many take-away food shops, cares and restaurants as well as many places to visit for interest and amusement. 

 

The tourist staying in any or the camping or caravan parks, Bed and Breakfast, Youth Hostels, guest houses or hotels (Accommodation), will find all the shopping facilities they require in the village shopping centre. 

 

The Village Shops include supermarkets, hardware, chemist, baker, electrical, butcher, clothes shops, gift shops, hairdressers, estate agents, newsagent, fruit and vegetables and a launderette with dry-cleaning facilities. There are several general stores around the village with late night openings. The Gorge Shops are open seven days a week during the season. These shops include specialist collectable shops as well as many gift shops for that ideal unusual present. The majority of village shops close on Wednesday afternoons. Post Office opens: 9am-5.30pm. Closed lunchtime 1-2pm. Half day Wed and Sat pm. Chemist opens: Mon to Sat 9am-5.30pm.
